With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking a full-time Indigenous Coordinator within the Indigenous Education, Equity & Community Relations department.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Reporting to the Head of Indigenous Affairs and working closely with the Indigenous Student Engagement Specialist, the Indigenous Student Coordinator will provide an integrated support system that provides opportunities for students to thrive by affirming their identities and cultures through culturally responsive and relevant practices.

  • Build trusting, mentoring relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students in grades K–12.
  • Act as a consistent advocate for Indigenous students and help navigate educational systems and opportunities
  • Provide identity-affirming, culturally grounded support that promotes student belonging
  • Assist Indigenous Student Engagement Specialist in developing individualized student support and graduation plans to improve credit accumulation and goal setting with the Indigenous Student Engagement Specialist
  • Share resources for students to explore post-secondary pathways including college, university, skilled trades, and employment
  • Identify and respond to individual student needs with the support of the Indigenous Student Engagement Specialist
  • Participate in staff learning and share knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, anti-racism education, and reconciliation practices
  • Other duties as assigned or required

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum two (2) year college diploma in Indigenous Studies, Education, Social or related discipline
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience supporting Indigenous students in educational or community-based settings
  • Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as First Nation, Inuit or Metis and or who possesses comprehensive first-hand life experience deeply rooted in the local Indigenous communities
  • Understanding of Indigenous knowledge systems, teachings, land-based education, and ceremony
  • Working knowledge of First Nation, Inuit and Métis cultures and traditions
  • Strong communication, mentorship, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and sensitivity, and ability to build rapport
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, build trust, and demonstrate cultural humility
  • Proven expertise in responding and facilitating sensitive and confidential matters
  • Knowledge of Ontario secondary school credit systems and graduation requirement an asset
  • A valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle is required for travel to schools
and other Board-related sites (eligibility for mileage reimbursement)

This is an exempt Level 2 position with a salary range of $ 69,596- $86,994 along with comprehensive benefits including pension plan, vacation, and professional development opportunities.
